Day 72/73: Sanding Primer2

Ahh, finally finished sanding the primer.  Ready for the deck color.  There are some bumps and flaws where the quick fair has been used but I don't feel like putting in the extra days it will take to fix them.  Lets just paint this thing!
Glued the boards for the boatman's well cover/spare wood.  It will get glassed and painted.
Found this funny dolphin bottle opener... hmm does the boat want to be named Zizumara? ...I think so.
Its been beautiful on Whidbey Island.  Hope it stays nice for a little painting tomorrow.

on your spare wood piece if you paint it will the epoxy still bond to it if it's actually needed for patch material? I had that concern is all, but don't know for sure.

  2. Yeah, Thats a big question mark. Any repair out on the river is temporary so I'm thinking that just roughing things up with sand paper is gonna be enough to bond things until dryland.

I've never seen a river repair actually done with wood. We always get by with duct tape and marine putty. I've seen a boat nearly cracked in two and sandpaper, duct tape and cam straps kept it all together.

So thats a long way of saying that I am planning on using the spare wood more as a cocktail table rather than patching material. ...If the river Gods allow :) Yeah, I pretty much just jinxed myself there. If you see someone on the river gluing driftwood onto their chine... you'll know who it is.

so besides a piece of driftwood and some duct tape what are you putting in your patch kit?

  4. Check out this link to what Brad Dimock has to say on the subject.

The only thing I would add might be some sand paper and little things like adhesive sealer, hose clamps or little parts and pieces for your drainage system if applicable.

I think the marine putty is made by Marine-Tec. Its a two part system...2:1 or something like that. You can apply it even to wet wood and it chisels/sands off easily. Its like McGyver's bubble gum. And if you only have minutes left before cocktail hour, its your go to, tool.

    How 'bout you?
